Artist's Description

Baba and her offspring, little Pepé, grazing. Baba is a Katahdin and Dorper mix and Pepé is 75 percent Katahdin. So sweet! I was excited to get to see these two in Pecan Gap, Texas, at a friends home where she is raising sheep. Raising for meat or hair, these two are being treated very well. If I were going to add another animal to our ranch, I would choose either of these breeds or a mix!!

Dorper is a fast-growing meat-producing sheep. The Dorper is an easy-care animal that produces a short, light coat of wool and hair that is shed in late spring and summer. It was developed in South Africa and is now the second most popular breed in that country. The Dorper Sheep Breeders Society of South Africa was founded in 1950.

This breed was developed by the crossing of a Dorset Horn x Blackhead Persian around the 1930s.

The Katahdin is a breed of domestic sheep developed in Maine, United States and named after Mount Katahdin - the state’s highest peak. The bree...
