Description
Hope
This is a painting I repainted. It was dark and I just wasn't crazy about it. I liked the idea of the flowers and I knew they needed some work but I also wanted to replace the vessel entirely. What I really liked about the painting to begin with, was the deep red surface in the foreground, so tried to work around that.
Why do I call this painting “Hope”?
My flowers remind me of people. None of these flowers is perfect. But I think what’s attractive is that there’s really not one trying to outshine the other. They all have their own unique characteristics and together make up the whole. As a collection of flowers I like how light shines on some and shade falls into others, making all this work together for the good of the painting. Some may be bolder than others but they respect each other’s space.
The vessel reminds me of what feeds us. Pure water is just one important substance we all need for survival. Even with the blue color, the vessel is transparent, which shows the condition of that which braces the flowers. You cannot obviously see them, but the stems have thorns and you might know what it’s like to be stuck by them.
I think my favorite part is the surface the vessel is setting on. Its deep, bold red surface reminds me of stability that is needed to secure the vessel which holds the flowers. Without this, there would be no arrangement standing upright and without the water contained in the vessel, no flowers to enjoy.
It reminds me of how a firm foundation will secure the life of the group.
Everyone seems to have their own different version of truth but it’s my hope that the real truth, the honest to God truth and love of mankind will prevail. We need this now more than ever.
