Description
This room opens doors to the interior design imagination, as it is the 1740 Duchess bedroom at the Stola Mansion in Sweden. I couldn’t help but think of my great-great grandparents who lived in Sweden during that time while new inventions were going on. The architecture back then was amazing too!
Reading on, I find out that Eva de La Gardie (Eva Ekebald) who lived in the Swedish Rococo room, was an inventor and scientist. She was the first female member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences!
In 1746 she discovered a method to make alcohol and flour from potatoes, which significantly reduced Sweden’s incidence of famine. The grain was used for making more bread and her potato starch was used for sauces.
